I've driven I-70 to Colorado many times, and it seems like with KHP it is either feast or famine. You might see as many as 10-15 driving across the state, or you might see none. They really seem to saturate patrols on holidays. Even though it's flat and wide open, they're not always easy to spot since their vehicles/colors vary. I've seen KHP driving Crown Vics, Chargers, and Tahoes in all sorts of colors (maroon, baby blue, gray, white, black). A lot of them are slicktops. A gray slicktop Charger going the other way on the interstate using selective I/O isn't as easy to spot as you might think, even on a wide open road. I've seen mostly 34.7 Ka used, but unfortunately they do use I/O selectively. One time I was behind one on I-70 who was camping in the left lane shooting oncoming traffic about once every 30 seconds or so. If you do encounter a C/O Ka, you'll have plenty of warning with a good detector but I think the KHP knows this.
The good thing is the State of KS recently increased the PSL on rural interstates to 75mph. I have heard from co-workers that KHP starts pulling somewhere 6+ PSL, so there isn't much room for more.
Anyway, hope this helps those of you traveling through my state. Don't feed the bears!
