Ok here's my trip report. I own a Whistler Pro-78.
Drove from Raleigh to Nags Head along highway 64. Just outside of Raleigh on the Knightdale bypass I detected a Wake County sheriff running C/O X-band heading in the other direction. X-band no less!
Quiet on the long stretches of road where the speed limit is 70 mph. However I saw a lot of activity where speed dropped for any reason. Saw some poor sole in a mini-van pulled over by the NCSHP where the speed dropped from 55 to 45 guess he missed the sign.
The closer I got to the coast the more LEOs I saw. Detected quite a few LEOs heading in the opposite direction on the 2-lane stretch oh highway heading into the OBX where the speed limit is 55.
The OBX (outter banks) is absolutely loaded with LEOs running C/O radar (Dare County Police). Whenever we drove somewhere I either detected a LEO or saw someone pulled over. Great place to try out your RD! I think the LEOs really prey on the tourists down there so watch out!
On the return trip I detected one NCSHP (C/O KA) traveling in the opposite direction on the 2-lane stretch of 64 then it was quiet the rest of the way.
Overall the Pro-78 performed well with virtually no false alarms. I'm impressed with the Pro-78 value.
In summary:
- C/O X-Band just outside of Raleigh on 64 bypass
- Nothing on 70 mph stretches of highway
- Good amount of NCSHP C/O KA Band on 64 leading into and out of OBX where speed is limited to 55 mph
- Lots of K and KA C/O Band once in Dare County (Dare County Police)
