Michigan: Do LEO pull people for tinted license plate cover? (LaserShield, Veil)

I want to add a LaserShield rear Super protector license plate cover" onclick="replacer_hook(86)" target="_blank" href="http://www.radardetector.net/superprotector">license plate cover for rear LIDAR passive protection. Looks like the LaserShield will make the plate look fuzzy and draws LEO's attention. Is this illegal?

It is legal but not very effective against the laser speed gun. Look back at testing that was done at the Alpine invitational testing event. One person their had one and we got punch thru while the person was using the Laser shield. Another friend of mine thinks its garbage.

I second the "Garbage comment." Don't waste your 20. Headlamp covers are a different story then your actually doing something.

And that in Michigan you just might get pulled over for I hear of it all the time on my scanner.

Some in some area's can get away with it. But honestly. Yes will Veil help reduce your reading Yes some i'm not going to dis that. Although Veil is like a "Last resort." Honestly. If by any other means you can't darken something, persay if they don't make a headlamp cover for a reflector, or headlamp on your car, "YA then you have to use veil and yes it works." Although, Headlamp covers in previous tests have proven to be 10 ft more effective in the Reduction of PT distance.

So? When you can buy something that is in essence alot more "Perminant." Rather than dumping 85 to 100 dollars for 3.5oz of veil constantly over time. You do the math. I went through 4 can's of veil on my SUV due to it coming off when powerwashing. When headlamp covers are only 50-60 dollars for a set and they will last untill your stupid with them and crack them. Also As I showed Aoshi just last weekend, it rub's right off. When with headlamp covers, it is there man. It ain't going anywhere, also it's more uniform than you'll ever get veil since veil you have to "Paint" on. Also headlamp covers you can "Take off at night with ease ." Can't say that about veil it takes rub alc which will leave a white resido on your lamps which also has to be cleaned off with another harsh cleaner. Personally. As far as the LS goes I wouldn't waste my money and time. All it stands to gain you is to roughly 500ft under PERFECT conditions anyhow (This is with a veil LS combo on the front and Veiled headlamp covers). Meaning the beam is so tight that, that is the only place it hits. Meaning no bounces off the plate could happen etc. Which is highly unlikely. Not to mention, at 500ft your toast anyhow, especailly to the rear. Meaning he could easily clock you even under the most IDEAL conditions till 500ft if that was "ALL" he was aiming for and that was the "ONLY" thing the lidar saw. As for veiling the LS thats totally up to you as is wasting your 20 on the LS. It's a nice theory/thought. Although unfortunatly, when it comes to laser the only true countermeasure is a stand up proud jammer. Especially for the rear, it takes a hardcore jammer to protect a License plate even. Passive Technology is "NOT" enough, and WILL fail on you. As far as veil on the plate, i've done it, as I said, and i removed it right away, as it was so dirty looking like above I knew i'd get messed with for that before speeding. Aoshi is trying this. Although He lives in a "TOTALLY" different Country/State. Michigan they are uptight about that stuff like I said I hear about smoked plates/obstructed plates meaning dirty all the time being light up. So go for it. Your busted scene not mine...

As far as Veil and LS cutting down your IR reflectivity. I don't honestly beleive it is going to gain you enough even on the front end to be worth while. Although this is still to be seen when I get to reshoot Aoshi. But from what i've seen through out the years i've been on this board. The GOL had the findings in which i've noted about Time and Time again, 500ft roughly give or take a hundred. Not alot if you ask me. And definetly not worth roughly the 120 bucks it will cost you. Thats shipping not included.

My honest thing to you is. If your really that truely concerned about being rear lasered get a top end laser jammer and install it on the rear right between the plate and your tail lamps.

I did this and can JFG on my satty even when being shot by a Pro 2 or Stalker LZ1.

Also the Laser shield + veil the GOL tested way back when they turned the jammers off. With a front plate was lucky to make it with headlamp covers, and even veiled headlamp covers didn't gain anything more than just headlamp covers. They with all this where still only able to make it to roughly 500ft at best give about a hundred feet little correction on myself there take maybe 20ft.

On the rear such protection would be pointless, because by the time you got to a point of Passive protection chances are if he wanted to, he's already got your speed in those first 500-600 ft.

As far as protection. I won't ever purchase veil again, or a LS unless I NEED veil because I can't find something to buy that is more perminant, ie covers. Or, it is the only option like on some of the cars that have turn signals seperate from the Headlight assembly itself. Then you have no choice really unless you fabracate your own covers. Which I have contemplated on previous vehicles.

Although I just made it a knowledgeable thing, I won't buy a future car if the turn signals and headlamps aren't all in One assembly and i can't affix headlamp covers to protect myeslf.

Although I do take it above and beyond according to some although i can JTG and JFG so.. Hey.. whatever I guess..?

One last thing I noticed as well when applying veil to a plate cover, veil is so runny that it isn't thick enough it seems? It is so hard to get the veil application on a plate cover uniform. It wants to run off it's almost watery. Which makes the application look even more like caked on dirt. ANd too boot makes it look kinda trashy. Which is not nice. It also makes it so ununiform that it looks like it probably is still going to have weak spots. Which from the GOL testing I mentioned above seems to hold true.

IDK Personally I'd "STEER Clear" of veil too like I said, unless it's a last resort. I'd definetly not waste my $ on LS but thats me. I know it's garbage. I have two Lidars. And have owned three know and not one did it hinder. And i'm planning on getting a fourth lidar here soon. TruSpeed. I sold my Prolaser I. And now have a Stalker LZ1 and ProLaser II.

I'd VEIL the LaserShield - or make sure that what the LaserShield is protecting is, already, "non-cooperative."

Look ath alpine's latest Invitational's data on the LaserShield, and the discussion that followed.

It's got me convinced.

To me, honestly, the passive protective measures is just extra insurance.

The other side of the equation only has to get lucky - we have to go out of our way to make sure that *EVERY* possible factor is to our favor.

I think that there is synergy to be had, both between the passive measures, as well as, more importantly, passive PLUS active.

If LIDAR is your primary worry, bone-up on the active measures, first. Then come back and address *each and every* of your passive possibilities.
