    Default The H.A.R.D Syastem

The ultra bright red light on the HARD system is bright enough to give a person a sun burn!

Geez, if that thing doesn't catch your attention nothing will. I'll never get another speeding ticket as long as I live while I'm riding my Triumph, but I might drive right off the edge of the road and crash into the parked State Trooper.

Overall, I'm pretty darn happy with the HARD system but I have four comments:

    1) It's NOT (it's really, Really, REALLY NN-OO-TT!!!) waterproof. I wouldn't expect to go scuba diving with the thing but it should be better protected against moisture than it is.

Which means that you can not mount the light unit to the outside of you helmet, which leads me to say......

    2) It takes up more space on the inside of a helmet than most of us are willing to give up. No big deal but..., bummer!

    3) You have to turn it off every time you take off your helmet or the battery will die. Conversely, you have to turn it on every time you put your helmet on or you won't know if/when the radar detector goes off. Double Bummer.

    4) In a perfect world it would convey more information than just On/Off. Too bad it can't somehow be more like the Smart Cord on a Bel or Escort radar detector.

Overall, I'm happy with it and am glad I bought it.

    Default HARD

I love my HARD too and I agree with you on it should be made more water resistant

I had a customer that came up with a novel way of installing it. He taped a piece of relective tape inside the visor and pointed the LED outwards. Now when the light activates, it hits the reflective strip

    Thanks for the input Ray.

Wearing a full face helmet, I was wondering how that unit would work.

I've also considered a remote speaker that's extra loud. Not sure I'll need it though... the "loud" setting on the 8500 seems loud enough to hear over even the Daytona's high carbon race pipe. We'll see.

    Default HARD

The unit would work great in a full face, here is a photo of a helmet with one installed

The HARD unit has saved my a$$ on several occasions already (I only got it around two months back).. It's so bright that you have to wonder what all the people in nearby cars think is going on, it totally lights your face up in red! ops:

I also wish it could convey more than a simple flash (different intensities or colours?), but I suppose a flash just means it's time to slow down for a little while

My biggest qualm with the light however is that it doesn't combine with the blinder unit to give total protection. Roy, any news on that situation? You mentioned something was in the works?

As far as the weather-resistance of the box... can it be sealed or McGuyvered in any way to beef up this draw back?

Also, how is it mounted to the helmet? Doest is have to be outside on the back, or will the box fit inside, behind the chin bar of a full face helmet?

    Default Hard

I know Aaron, the engineer was working on the interface with the Blinder, don't know how far he got with that

As far as the other post, depending on the helmet, can be mounted in or outside

save your money and go with an autocom system... 80$ right now.. it comes with helmet speakers, and everything you need to talk on your cell phone listen to music etc.. i have mine set up so that the detector goes over the music. its less expensive, it does more, and you dont have an ugly light on your helmet.
