    Default Input on placement?

Ive been away for a while and just got back into the RD game, sort of.

I just recently got a motorcycle (Honda CBR600F3), and I want to put my detector on my bike and out of view from passersby. The only problem is I dont know where to put it.

I would really like to hide it behind a fairing, but also want to keep it horizontal and keep a good view of the road, along with keeping air flow as high as possible.

There are some vents in the front I thought would work but I noticed that my bike runs a tad on the warm side and I dont want to mess with air flow. I know Roy used to be a big biker, so I thought this area would have more info in it, but I guess not.

Does anyone know of a good place to view stealthy installs or have pics of their own?

    Thanks guys.

My 2-cents is that you should worry first and foremost about where to mount for best radar detection. Then remove the RD whenever you leave the bike unattended. Stealth installs almost always compromise range.

Take a look on the Valentine web site for motorcycle mounting recommendations -- they apply to any detector.

RAM have a very good magnetic base mount that just needs a twist to release.
They have a variety of other mounting systems too.
I mounted my V1 so that it is protected by the screen. You will need some form of waterproofing for your unit as well.

At times I'd like to mount an RD - I don't have any fairing, windshield.... Nada & Nada-II. Would like to do a GPS too. I guess it's one of the downfalls of a V-Twin naked cruiser

You got good advice. Mount it where it does the best job receiving, then just find a mounting system that makes it easy for you to remove and take with you.

I have mine mounted on the dash of my bike, using a ram mount and a special magnetic mount I found at cyclegadgets.com

When I leave the bike, I just twist the rd and off it comes, right in my jacket pocket.

Ill probably end up doing that.

I tore my bike apart the other day installing HID's, there is NO room for mounting the RD if I want it to have a clear view of the road in front of me.

    AFineRide,

Do you use headphones while riding, or do you just keep an eye/ear on the RD while riding?

Show us a picture of your dash and handlebars. You'd be surprised what we can come up with.

Regarding the RD alert, I have a Scala Q2 headphones in my helmet. I tried keeping an eye/ear on it but, at speed, you can't hear it and if you miss the first 3 seconds of the alert, your toast. Might as well not have and RD.

    Agree big time ^^^.

Your eyes "steer" your bike almost as much as the handlebars do, so diverting them at a crucial moment is bad policy.

And with a V1 you get such good info via audio that you can react while shifting, braking, steering and leaning, all without diverting your eyes or attention much at all.

Quick example: on a nice set of rural twisties, you get a quick full-volume K or Ka "braap" in your ear. No need to visually check the arrows; it's time to scrub off velocity, now. Weak, muted X beep? Take your time, check road hazards first, before moving your focus to the RD, then the arrows and strength; probably an intrusion alarm.

Here is a picture of mine mounted on a ram attachment inside a waterproof box I got from legal speeding dot com.

Here it is from the side:

I have a Scala Q2 and hardwire my RD to the Scala, I can hear it loud and clear even over music. No need to take my eyes off the road as the radar tells me the type of radar signal
