Proposed Ban on Speed Traps in Tennessee

The Tennessee House is set to vote on a bill to ban small town law enforcement officials from enforcing speeding violations on interstate highways.

Rep. Philip Pinion of Union City, TN says the bill stops speed traps set up on interstates by towns with a population of 10,000 or less.

The restriction would not apply to drug enforcement by local officers who are members of a judicial district drug force.

The House Finance, Ways and Means committee approved the measure without a debate. The Senate version has not yet advanced in a committee.
