When I moved from CA to FL, I drove one of my cars across I-10. The parts in New Mexico and West Texas (west of San Antonio) has the highest average speeds based on my observations.

The land was very flat and the roads were pretty straight. Radar detection range was pretty far, and hiding places for LEOs were few and far between.

I recall setting my cruise control somewhere in the mid to high 80's and still getting passed by more than a few cars.

One thing comes to mind. If you were to get in a bad accident, you'd stand a good chance of bleeding out on the roadside. Towns and hospitals can be a good ways off, and even with med helicopters, the so called "golden hour" after your accident is going to be used for waiting for help.

AFAIK, montana used to not have a speed limit when they were between cities, but now - I believe its 70 mph.

I *think* it's 75 in some spots,. It may be only for cars and/or daytime only.

Back between 1973 and 1986 the highest speed limit in the land was 55 mi/h :shock:

1986-1995 the highest was 65 mi/h.

1995-2000 you could go as fast as you wanted in Montana. Though honestly, before or now you could go as fast as you wanted anyway in MT
