State trooper injured in wreck in St. Charles County

WELDON SPRING, Mo. - A 27-year-old Missouri state trooper was injured following a wreck Monday morning in St. Charles County.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. on Missouri Route 94 near Interstate 64. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the trooper saw a motorcycle driver make an illegal U-turn and tried to make his own U-turn to catch up with the motorcycle. The patrol car was struck by a truck. As both vehicles spun out of control, the truck hit a third vehicle.

Passengers in the truck and the third vehicle suffered minor injuries. The trooper was more seriously hurt, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Names of the trooper and others involved have not been released. The Highway Patrol said the trooper has been with the patrol for one year.

Unreal, just like what happened up here... a (young) trooper lost their life because they decided to chase a motorcycle.

I don't know what it will take for young LEO's (in particular) to understand they are not outfitted to stop a motorcycle... unless they have air support. They (the LEO's) are MUCH more dangerous trying to stop a motorcycle, then the motorcyclist themselves... the veterans seem to have learned this and just motorola the incidents in.


It is terrible incident though, its just a good thing that everyone is ok.

For a U-Turn it was not worth the risk to the LEO. For something more serious I could understand. I guess he was one of the rookies looking for an opportunity to write a ticket.
