If you will be hitting the road in Wichita County this summer you might want to ease up on the gas. That is because County Commissioners gave the Department of Public Safety the green light to purchase three new laser radar guns. Troopers say these use a special laser technology which can more precisely target an individual car in heavy traffic than their current radar system. Even if you have a radar detector, troopers say that is no guarantee you won`t get a speeding ticket. DPS Trooper Joe Clement states, "You`re not constantly sending out a beam that is going to alert someone further down the road that they are operating radar up ahead. It`s less detectable." Clement says by cutting down the number of speeders, drivers should have a safer trip on the highways. The new radar guns should arrive in a few weeks.
