Red Light Camera Vote Scheduled for Tonight
The Lafayette Consolidated Council will make a final decision tonight on a controversial measure aimed at improving traffic safety by cutting down on so-called red light runners.
An ordinance up for final adoption tonight would authorize city-parish government to install cameras at several intersections throughout Lafayette.
The electronic cameras would snap a photograph of the license plate of any vehicles that run a red light, and a traffic violation would then be mailed to the owner of that vehicle.
This has generated a lot of attention in recent months.
