Speed limits to be reduced to 50km in Barossa

Barossa residents will have to slow down when driving through the region now speed limits are being reduced.

A 50 kilometre per hour limit will apply to most major townships over the next few months.

The director of works and engineering for the Barossa council, Michael Lange, says the changes are necessary.

"The traffic volumes and the extension of built up areas within the council area has necessitated a review of the speed limits, so really that was the driver behind it as well as requests from the general public seeking some alterations," he said.

"So it was appropriate to review them all rather than an ad hoc approach to individual roads."
