Marina announces special traffic enforcement Thursday
Officers with the Marina Public Safety Department will be conducting an aggressive traffic enforcement program in the city Thursday.
The operation "is being implemented to address important motorist safety concerns on the major commuter routes in the city of Marina," according to Lt. Rick Janicki.
The enforcement program will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday on Reservation Road, Imjin Parkway and Del Monte Boulevard, Janicki said.
He said statistics kept during a 10-month period ending Sept. 26 indicate that 96 traffic collisions have been reported on those roadways. Of those, 34 have resulted in injuries and one resulted in death.
"It has been found that the major causes of the collisions in these areas are due to speeding, right of way, and unsafe lane change violations," Janicki said.
