New laser gun to detect tailgaters

Maybe someone has already reported this. I haven't seen it. It was on NPR this morning, 10/4/06. The guns cost only $600 and Oregon is giving out $240 tickets. IMHO, this is a good use of a laser gun. The question is, "How accurate are they?" Even NPR pointed out a laser gun in England tracked a wall going 40 mph and a parked car going 20.

I think Ive seen this before, they target the front bumpers of both cars to get a reading right? It seems flawed because some cars are longer than others, maybe not long enough to make the readings go from the ticket to the non-ticket catigory.
