Locations for new Inishowen speed cameras
More speed cameras are on their way to Inishowen's accident blackspots as part of a wide-scale crackdown on speeding by Gardaí. Some of the locations are detailed below.
It is expected that over 600 new speed cameras will be set up on Ireland's roads as part of a national campaign aimed at cutting accidents.
Gardaí will begin targeting the 400 'red zones' nation-wide with cameras from next month.
These zones have been designated as the most dangerous in the country.
Over 50 stretches of Donegal's roads have been earmarked as 'red zones' with 12 identified in Inishowen. The Inishowen 'red zones' include stretches of road between Bridgend and and Buncrana, Carndonagh and Culdaff and Redcastle and Ballyboe.
Gardaí insist the campaign, which will involve Gardaí officers and private contractors, is aimed at improving road safety and is not a means of raising revenue.
Among the red zone speed traps are the following stretches -
R236 Crossroads at Momeen to Border after Carrigans
R238 Bridgend Roundabout to Pier at Fahan
R238 Pier at Fahan to Roundabout entering Buncrana
R238 Buncrana Town to after Y junction with R-244 Boundary
R238 After Y junction with R-244 to sharp bend at Clonmany
R238 Sharp bend at Clomany to Collin
R238 Carndonagh town Boundary to Culdaff
