(KHNL) - Nearly 24 hours since Honolulu Police began putting a concerted effort into catching speeders on Oahu, it's been no tolerance, no excuses.
For Dale Clites, it's just another day on the job with HPD.
"You was going 67mph in a 50 mph zone. That's speeding," he said to a driver he pulled over on Moanalua Freeway near Halawa.
Speeding with two kids in the van will cost the driver $142.
"Everybody gets speeding tickets. If you speed, you get busted, you get a ticket," said Clites.
On Thursday, HPD announced a special, anti-speeding task force. It'll be responsible for slowing down drivers, like a 19-year-old driver who Clites pulled over.
"If we do catch a young one like that, I like that better because it's a chance that they can learn from the experience and not do it no more for a long time," he said.
Police say a laser gun doesn't lie so excuses don't work.
"If one person does slow down because they see us out here, that's great," Clites said. "When we're pulled over like this, people will drive by, and they see that guy, the violator speed by them, they're happy, they'll say nice job, like that, that feels pretty good."
