Police target speeders, seat belt violators
Saturday, December 2, 2006
MONMOUTH - The Monmouth Police Department has set up saturation patrols and seat belt enforcement zones through Sunday.
The department said officers will focus on speeding violations, seat belt violators and child restraint violations and take positive enforcement action. The goal is to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and the resulting injuries and property damage that comes with them, police said.
The program is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.
In Illinois, 1,356 people died in vehicle crashes in 2004.
