Cameras catch 1,600 speeding motorists in one day
In a single day, 1,600 speeding motorists were photographed by the recently-installed speed cameras on the M1 highway, reports vg.hu. All of the cars were going at least 30 km/h over the speed limit.
A camera placed close to the western town of Tatabánya captured 400 motorists going over 160 km/h, where the speed limit is 130 km/h. The other camera, located on the shared section of the M1 and M7 highways, made 1,200 shots, as the speed limit on this part of the highway is only 100 km/h.
Motorists, however, will only be fined starting from December 9th. The camera system is still being tested. Starting Saturday, the cameras will be able to make recognizable images of the speeding cars, as well as their drivers.
In the near future, the highway authorities are planning to install similar camera systems on the M3, M7 and M5 highways.
