SANTA FE (AP) - Santa Fe County won’t be putting up cameras on major roads to catch speeders.
Sheriff Greg Solano says the county cannot override a state law that prohibits cameras from being used to issue speeding tickets.
That disappointed Pojoaque school officials. They wanted to deter speeders on State Road 502 by putting cameras on the highway.
The highway goes past two schools between Pojoaque and Los Alamos. School and county officials say they’ll turn to other measures.
Pojoaque Superintendent Toni Trujillo says police agencies have pledged to stop more speeders. The county also plans to put up billboards reminding commuters they’re driving past schools.
