West Manheim cop 'nailed' at speed trap

West Manheim Township Police are looking for information on who might have placed nails under a police cruiser's four tires last Thursday, causing more than $500 in damage.
The damage was discovered by a police officer who was conducting speed enforcement in the 600 block of Fairview Drive, said Police Chief Tim Hippensteel.
About 8:30 p.m., the officer drove the cruiser from the spot where he was parked beside a barn to pull over a speeding vehicle, then returned to the location 10 minutes later. About eight minutes later, the officer went to pursue another speeding vehicle and heard a clicking noise.
About 50 aluminum roofing nails were placed "intentionally face up" where the cruiser's tire marks were, Hippensteel said.
He said all four tires were flat and had to be replaced at a cost of more than $500.
The department is conducting an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (717) 632-7059, or York County CrimeStoppers at (717) 755-TIPS or (800) 722-0991.
CrimeStoppers will offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible.
