Vendor chosen for red-light cameras

City-Parish President Joey Durel has announced that he has selected Redflex as the vendor for Lafayette Consolidated Government’s SafeLight and SafeSpeed programs.

Last year, the city-parish council agreed to install and operate cameras at intersections throughout the area to catch speeders and drivers who run red lights. In addition, officials hoped to have two vans to catch speeders at changing locations.

According to a news release, city-parish officials received four proposals from nationally-recognized vendors on Jan. 4. The chosen vendor, Redflex, operates programs in about 100 municipalities, which represents approximately 60 percent of the total deployed electronic enforcement systems in the country.

The cameras are expected to be installed before the end of the summer.
