Authorities cracking down on speeders on Highway 111 in Indian Wells

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department will kick off an agressive speed enforcement program on Highway 111 in Indian Wells today that will last for two weeks.

Today's monitoring is the second part of a three-phase project Indian Wells is conducting to monitor traffic speed and safety issues in the city. The first phase began Jan. 29 and it involved monitoring speeds at several specific spots on Highway 111.

"Providing for optimal traffic safety and flow is certainly a part of the city of Indian Well's plan to maximize quality of life for residents and visitors as they travel through and around Indian Wells," city Personnel/Risk Director Mell Windsor said in a news release.

The third phase consists of conducting a follow-up speed survey similar to the first phase.

The entire project is scheduled to wrap up by the end of this month.
