Speed cameras erected in Kirkby Lonsdale
TWO speed cameras are being placed on the A65 in Kirkby Lonsdale.
The fixed cameras are being put in both directions in the 40mph zone of Bentinck Drive between Town End and Devil's Bridge.

The decision to put the cameras on this specific stretch of the busy trunk road was taken after figures from 2003 to 2005 inclusive showed 11 accidents causing injury took place in this area.

Steve Callaghan, safety camera manager for Cumbria Safety Camera Partnership, said: "It has been identified as an accident hot spot with a high number of killed or seriously injured people.

"Over three years we gain accident cluster analysis which helps us to see which areas are the accident hot spots.

"Over this time we found within a 500 metre to 1,000 metre radius that these accidents have happened.

"After that we then ran a speed monitoring programme and the average speed in the 40mph area was in quite a lot of excess of the limit."
