Albuquerque’s $100 fine for getting caught by a red-light camera running a red light has drawn the wrath of the state Senate, which unanimously passed a bill Friday to limit fines like that.

The bill would limit those fines, which are civil citations, to the same amount charged under state law for getting caught by law enforcement.

Albuquerque, the only place in the state to use red-light cameras, currently charges a $100 fine for getting caught on camera running a red light. That would be reduced to $15 under this bill.

The bill now goes to the state House of Representatives.
