Extra patrols on four Bloomington intersections

Bloomington Police are trying to figure out why four particular intersections are on a list with the highest number of crashes in the city. Today they start a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP. They'll put extra patrols on the intersections of Prospect Road and Washington Street, Hershey Road and Empire Street, Morrissey Drive and Veteran's Parkway, and Main Street at MacArthur street. Police spokesman Duane Moss says the focus is on education, as much as enforcement.

Moss says the extra enforcement will have a zero tolerance policy, no warnings will be issued for traffic violations at those intersections. The STEP effort goes for 30 days. Eventually, police will focus on other sets of intersections across the city.
