Speed cameras in operation on M50

Static speed cameras have been placed on part of the M50 and have begun operating today.

The cameras are located alongside roadworks that are taking place near the Red Cow exit.

The Road Safety Authority says the cameras were erected because of a 'real sense of concern' that people are driving too fast in the area, where the speed has been reduced to 60kph.

A spokesperson for the RSA said despite the reduction in the speed limit from 120kph to 60 kph people are still speeding in the area.

He said the cameras will remain in place for the duration of the roadworks.
