ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Police Department will conduct a four-week speed-enforcement period beginning Monday.

In conjunction with an Illinois Department of Transportation speed enforcement grant, off-duty police officers will be hired back to conduct speed enforcement in the construction zones of Randall Road and West Main Street (Route 64), the 100 block of East Main Street, the 1700-2500 blocks of West Main Street and the first-400 blocks of North Second Street (Route 31).

During the previous enforcement period, St. Charles officers issued 116 speeding citations, one seat belt citation, four other moving violations, and one citation for a child restraint seat violation.

The initiative is part of a statewide program to reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities.

St. Charles Police are asking that motorists drive carefully and remember to slow down in construction zones.
