The Ottawa Police Department will receive more than $8,100 for speed enforcement checks to be conducted throughout summer.
The Illinois Department of Transportation grant amount is $8,131, which will reimburse the city the cost of overtime and mileage for 192 hours of speed enforcement Tuesday, May 1, and Friday, Aug. 31.
The purpose of the grant is to reduce the number of speed-related traffic accidents involving personal injury. The added speed enforcement afforded by the grant will be concentrated in areas where a high percentage of Ottawa's speed-related injury accidents occur as identified by IDOT statistics.
"The officers assigned to this duty will be aggressively enforcing the speed limits and no warnings will be given for speeding or any speed-related offense," a representative said.
