Sheriff's Department to increase speed patrols

PEKIN - The Tazewell County Sheriff's Department will be increasing speed enforcement patrols throughout May.

The purpose of the Speed Enforcement Program is to reduce the number of speeding-related vehicle crashes and the resulting injuries and fatalities. The Sheriff's Department is conducting six monthlong speed campaigns, which began in November.

There are several locations where motorists' speed will be targeted, with goals of increased compliance and reducing crashes. The program is made possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.
