Palm Bay police triple March traffic stops

Palm Bay police made almost three times the number of traffic stops in March this year compared with the same month in 2006.
“The radars were bought with the help of a Florida Deprtment of Transportation grant,” said Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez.
The 3,591 traffic stops happened because of 25 new traffic radars, increased enforcement near accident-prone zones and a zero tolerance approach to traffic violations, police said.
The tarffic stops resulted in nearly 2,000 citations.
The measures were enforced because traffic related deaths in 2006 climbed to 21 in 2006 from 10 the year before, Martinez said.
