Default FL - Unmarked trucks debated

To some law enforcement agencies, unmarked vehicles are a useful tool for maintaining safety on the road.

But some motorists argue that using the vehicles to make traffic stops is unfair and of questionable effectiveness.

The City of Milton began using an unmarked white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck for traffic enforcement on March 1. Already, it has been used to stop 500 drivers, more than 255 of whom have received citations.

Gulf Breeze has used an unmarked 2005 Ford F-150 pickup for the past two years. It's responsible for 1,335 tickets through last October, the latest statistics available.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has one unmarked vehicle.
