The California Department of Transportation is reminding drivers that 55 mph is the speed limit in the construction zone on Highway 99 between Kingsburg and Selma.

The next phase of construction there will begin Sunday evening and continue round the clock until the morning of May 17.

During that time, the California Highway Patrol will keep an eye out for speeders along the stretch of freeway using patrol cars and aircraft overhead, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans reported that the CHP issued 503 traffic citations from January through April during earlier construction in the area.
