Staff report
To reduce commercial motor vehicle crashes, injuries and deaths on Interstate 69, Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell has initiated accelerated enforcement efforts on Indiana’s interstate systems.
In response to this initiative, Ft. Wayne, Pendleton and Redkey state police districts along Interstate 69 will increase patrols utilizing Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division motor carrier inspectors.
The enforcement zone area includes Hamilton County.
The sustained enforcement action is an effort to reduce commercial motor vehicle crashes causing injuries and deaths on I-69.
Troopers and motorcycle patrols will focus their enforcement efforts on commercial motor vehicle driver violations, including speeding, following too close and unsafe lane movement.
Motor carrier inspectors will focus their efforts on commercial motor vehicle driver-related inspections, including driver licensing, medical certification verification, log book entries, vehicle licensing, vehicle mechanical components, emergency equipment and annual vehicle inspection certifications as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
“It is the goal of the Indiana State Police to make Interstate 69 as safe as possible for all motorists and we strive for voluntary compliance but, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action against unsafe motorists,” Whitesell said.
