ATLANTA - Georgia and South Carolina will join forces for a "two-state speed crackdown" on the Interstate 85 corridor.

The Gov.'s Office of Highway Safety says the crackdown will begin at noon June 29th. It's part of Georgia's plans to boost its summerlong traffic enforcement effort with a weekend focusing on I-85 before the July Fourth holiday.

Officials say the emphasis will shift from one location to another as authorities try to blanket the state with safer traffic.

The office says law enforcement officers throughout Georgia and other states hope to reduce the 25-hundred lives lost each year in the Southeast between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Officials are encouraging motorists to obey the speed limit, wear seat belts, buckle up their children and drive sober.
