Nude driver allegedly hits trooper at traffic stop
Batulis was booked with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, two each of reckless driving and aggravated flight from an officer, and one each of resisting arrest and driving while impaired by a drug.
A nude driver allegedly hit a Louisiana state trooper at a traffic stop in East Baton Rouge Parish and tried to run over two more in another area before they ended the early morning chase by shooting out a tire, state police said.
Bryan Batulis Jr., 25, was booked with three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, two each of reckless driving and aggravated flight from an officer, and one each of resisting arrest and driving while impaired by a drug, Sgt. Markus L. Smith said in a news release Monday.
Smith said troopers investigating a fatal wreck a few days earlier were diverting southbound traffic about 2:30 a.m. Monday, but Batulis kept going. When a trooper walked up to his pickup truck, Batulis allegedly sped up and hit the trooper in the leg, Smith said.
Smith said the other troopers tried to stop him outside a restaurant about 3 1/2 miles (5.6 kilometers) away, but he again stepped on the gas and tried to hit them.
The troopers shot out the right front tire and the truck ran into a ditch about 6 miles (9.7 kilometers) away, Smith told The Advocate for its Tuesday edition.
Batulis and the injured trooper were both treated and released from hospital. Smith said he had no idea why Batulis was naked.
