Mpls. Police To Crack Down On Summer Speeding

(WCCO) Minneapolis Minneapolis Police announced their intentions to crack down on speeding during the dog days of summer.

The effort is part of the Department of Public Safety's "Safe & Sober" campaign.

From July 1 until August 12, officers will accelerate patrols to prevent excessive speeding. According to Minneapolis Police, summer is statistically the deadliest period on Minnesota roads.

"Ideal road conditions lead to motorists increasing speeds and ignoring speed limits," said Sgt. Scott Olson of the traffic enforcement unit.

The department released figures stating that, over the last five years, speed played a factor in 92 Hennepin County road deaths.
