The City of Chandler plans to install seven new speed cameras in the coming months, in addition to the five already installed.

Lieutenant Steve Henry with the Chandler Police Department's Traffic Division said the goal is to reduce traffic accidents.

"The common thread is always speed. And if we can get people to slow down, especially as they enter an intersection, in case there is a collision occurring at that intersection, that the damage to people, not just vehicles, is going to decrease," Henry said.

Henry hopes to have all 12 cameras operating by November 1. Speeders caught on camera may be fined up to $325 dollars.
