On Monday, Troopers cracked down on speeders going through construction zones on Interstate 70 near the Mid Rivers Mall. The Missouri Highway Patrol handed out more than one hundred speeding tickets.
They say many motorists were driving nearly 80mph, in a 50mph zone. One motorist was clocked at 93 miles an hour.
The Highway Patrol also had a spotter in the air. He used a stop watch and preset markers on the ground to determine the speed of some drivers.
Last year on Missouri roads, more than a dozen highway workers were killed. Sergeant Al Nothum says speed played a major role in nearly all of the collisions.
Fines for speeding through a construction zone start at two hundred and fifty dollars.
