A 30-day warning period for red-light camera tickets at seven Tempe intersections will end at midnight, police said Friday.

Redflex Traffic Systems, a private vendor based in Scottsdale, has a contract with the city to monitor red light and speed-on-green violations at seven intersections. In addition, the company will operate three “fixed camera” locations and two mobile photo radar vans for speed violations.

Previously, the city only used two red-light cameras and two photo radar vans. Tempe Sgt. Mike Horn said the warning period did not apply to the photo radar vans, which have operated in the city for 10 years.

“It is not the intent of the City of Tempe to profit from photo enforcement,” Sgt. Mike Horn wrote in a news release. “Historically, the program has operated at a loss of $285,000 per year for the City.”

He said the expanded system uses advanced digital technology and is projected to be “cost neutral.”

The seven red-light and speed-on-green intersections are:

• Mill and Southern
• Kyrene and Elliot
• 48th Street and Broadway
• Rural and University
• McClintock and Guadalupe
• Rural and Warner
• McClintock and Rio Salado

The fixed speed cameras will be in the following locations: northbound between University and Rio Salado, southbound between University and Rio Salado and southbound between University and Rio Salado.
