The Department of Public Safety says it's expanding its experimental use of speed limit photo enforcement to state highways in Mohave County in northwestern Arizona.
DPS plans a Friday news conference in Kingman to demonstrate the technology to the news media, and spokesman Bart Graves says use would start immediately after that.
The DPS began using roadside vans in the Phoenix area in November and also on Interstate 10 in Maricopa and Pinal counties in south-central Arizona.
DPS Director Roger Vanderpool has said the vans aren't intended to replace law enforcement officers, but are simply a tool to increase public safety. He says the technology should reduce accidents caused by speeders.
The state issued a contract for Redflex Traffic Systems of Scottsdale for two vans for two years.
