Traffic patrols to be out on far East Side today

February 15, 2008

Aurora police will be patrolling the far East Side in unmarked vehicles today, cracking down on traffic violations, officials said.

The detail will focus on locations that typically experience a high volume of accidents primarily due to unsafe driving habits such as following too closely, speeding, and disobeying stop lights and stop signs.

Officers will be using numerous unmarked vehicles which will allow them to not only operate covertly, but also to blend in with moving traffic so they are better able to observe infractions such as tailgating and aggressive driving.

The operation will take a "zero tolerance" approach to violators, officials said.

A similar operation last month along several points on Eola Road resulted in 118 citations being issued. Police are not releasing the exact times they will be running the operation.
