WENATCHEE — A new statewide project funding extra police patrols to focus on traffic safety will kickoff Saturday in the Wenatchee area.
Dubbed X-52 — shorthand for extra patrols every week of the year — the project will involve 12 officers from all four local law enforcement agencies, said Eveline Roy, traffic safety task force coordinator for Chelan and Douglas counties.
The patrols will take place from 2 to 10 p.m., said Roy, and target Highway 28 from East Wenatchee to Rock Island and Highway 97A from Wenatchee to Entiat.
Collision data from previous years led to selection of those stretches of highway, said Roy.
There will be extra patrols every week somewhere in the state, explained Roy, but will take place about once a month in the Wenatchee area.
