Grants will help increase traffic patrols

JUNEAU — The Dodge County Sheriff's Department has received two state grants to conduct extra patrols targeting speeders and drunken drivers.
The Department of Transportation grants will fund increased patrols at least once per month now through September.
Initially, extra enforcement will be conducted in the evening and early morning hours, with a heavier concentration of hours on the weekends.
"I realize that some may criticize a narrow focus like this when there are many law enforcement concerns facing the citizens of our county. However, statistics clearly show that speed and intoxication are significant factors in most vehicle accidents," said Patrol Capt. Molly Soblewski in a press release.
Soblewski said the Sheriff's Department also will be purchasing additional radar units with the grant money.
