A man fined more than $1200 and stripped of nine demerit points for using a radar detector is one of the police's first scalps in their Easter road blitz.
Police in an unmarked car saw the 38-year-old Rosemeadow man using the detector on Victoria Road, just west of the Anzac Bridge, about 10.10am.
He was driving a modified Holden Monaro.
The man was fined $1200, his licence was stripped of nine demerit points, and the radar detector was taken by police.
The police were on patrol as part of Operation Tortoise, which began at midnight last night and ends midnight on Monday, a police spokeswoman said.
Penalties for using a radar detector were the same throughout the year, she said.
During Operation Tortoise, double demerit points applied to any motorists that speed and fail to wear a seatbelt, or motorcyclists not wearing a helmet, she said.
