Several Boone County law enforcement agencies will be targeting "hazardous" traffic violations Friday as part of a daylong traffic operation at the start of the spring break season.
Between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., Boone County sheriff’s deputies, police officers from Ashland, Centralia, Columbia and Hallsville, and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers will conduct the detail, dubbed Operation Spring Brake. The agencies will be targeting hazardous moving violations, "move over" violations and seat belt infractions, Columbia police Sgt. Tim Moriarity said.
Grants provided by the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety will help pay overtime salaries for the additional personnel used in the operation, Columbia police said in a news release.
