Speeders beware

Schaumburg police will conduct a special speed-limit enforcement campaign from April 1 to Sept. 30, thanks to an IDOT grant. Extra officers working overtime -- so as not to interfere with normal policing levels and operations -- will be assigned to areas identified as high-crash stretches: Golf Road between Salem Drive and Plum Grove Road, and Higgins Road between Plum Grove and East Frontage roads. Though the focus will be on speeders, police say they'll take a "zero-tolerance approach" to all traffic violations observed during the enforcement periods, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. During last year's special enforcement in the same locations, police issued 1,014 speeding tickets.
