Albert Lea, MN- "The number one contributor to fatality crashes is speed," said Lt. J.D. Carlson, Albert Lea Police Department.
The Albert Lea police will increase enforcement starting April 1st. For about a week, officers will target drivers speeding. It's part of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety "Safe and Sober" program.
"Our intent isn't just to issue tickets and arrest bodies. We'd like people to head media and educational portion."
Officer Carlson said when they pull over drivers for speeding they could get something they didn't expect.
"Getting traffic stops off speeds we may end up with people without license, warrants, DWI."
With all the police out patrolling, Carlson said that could be enough to keep people obeying the speed limits.
