Albemarle County Police issued more than 100 tickets to drivers on Thursday during a traffic enforcement operation addressing unsafe driving.

The officers targeted several area highways, including Seminole Trail, 250 Bypass, Monacan Trail, Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Scottsville Road, and Gordonsville Road. Those roads were selected because they have experienced high numbers of traffic accidents and citizen complaints, said police.

A total of 101 tickets were issued to 94 drivers. 61 tickets were given for speeding, four summonses for reckless driving, one for speeding in a work zone, nine for failing to obey a traffic signal, four for seat belt violations, four for registration violations, four for inspection violations , and three for following too close.

The highest speed recorded by officers during the operation was 87 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone.

Albemarle County Police plan to continue with their enhanced enforcement along area highways.
