Newport News police crack down on traffic violations

NEWPORT NEWS - The Newport News Police Department's traffic unit will conduct an "enforcement initiative" this afternoon, cracking down on specific violations along Jefferson Avenue.

Beginning at 2 p.m., officers will address complaints about drivers who fail to stop for school buses as they unload children along Jefferson between Shields and Richneck roads. After that, officers will focus on traffic light violations at the intersection of Jefferson and Oyster Point Road. They will finish by heading to the south end of the city to focus on traffic enforcement along Jefferson.

The officers will also be looking for violations of the city's taxi ordinances and motor carrier laws.
