TOMS RIVER, N.J. - State troopers have been pulling over hundreds of drivers who are ignoring the lower speed limit on a section of the Garden State Parkway.
Special details of troopers were dispatched to the 20-mile stretch between South Toms River and Wall Township in March.
During the first month of the 55 mph speed limit, troopers wrote 266 summonses for hazardous offenses, including speeding.
That number doesn't include tickets written by regular patrols in the area. State Police estimate that would double the amount.
The speed limit was lowered from 65 mph because there have been many accidents in that area.
