Warren council members are expected to vote Wednesday on an ordinance that would allow traffic cameras, designed to nab speeders, to be placed on city streets.

Councilman Bob Dean, who introduced the legislations, says he will be asking his colleagues to pass the ordinance.

Now the cameras would be similar to one that was used in Girard a few years ago. The cameras would snap a picture of the license plate of any vehicle going over the speed limit. Authorities would then send a ticket to the owner of the car.

Dean said he would like the cameras to be placed in areas where there is a lot of traffic, such as school zones. Dean says the cameras would free up officers from doing traffic patrol, and instead they will be able to concertrate on other crimes.
